Community Pot Nutrition Support Centre Launches to Combat Malnutrition in Toddlers

The Community Pot Nutrition Support Centre (NSC) officially launched on November 15, 2024, at the Institute of Child Health, University of Ibadan, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to address malnutrition in toddlers, bringing together stakeholders from government, business, and professional sectors, alongside community representatives.

Key Highlights of the Launch Event:

  • Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: Conducted by a representative of the Institute of Child Health, symbolizing the collective effort to combat malnutrition.
  • Specially Produced Jingle: Unveiled to sensitize the public on the link between malnutrition and underlying health issues in children.
  • Presentations: Focused on the pillars of the NSC, emphasizing transparency, collaboration, and sustainability in addressing malnutrition.

Expert Insights:

Mrs. Bolaji Ayoola, Director of Nursing Services at OYSHMB, stressed the importance of starting health education at the ante-natal stage, highlighting proper nutrition for pregnant women as critical.¹

Dr. Titilayo Falade, FoodSafety4Africa Project Coordinator, emphasized education’s crucial role in addressing malnutrition, noting societal stigma prevents parents from seeking help.

Adenike Apeji, Managing Director of Renee Golden Multi-Ventures, highlighted the business’s critical role in combating malnutrition through affordable, accessible, and nutrient-rich products.

NSC’s Vision:

Founder and Team Lead, Mrs. Oluwakemi Jeje, emphasized the NSC’s transformative approach, leveraging existing resources to combat malnutrition. The centre aims to:

  • Empower Mothers: Through training and education.
  • Partner with Local Food Manufacturers: Making nutrient-rich products affordable and accessible.
  • Establish 20,000 Centers Nationwide: Nourishing 10 million toddlers and transforming the narrative of malnutrition.

The NSC’s ambitious goal is to eradicate malnutrition, and its launch marks a significant step towards achieving this vision.
